I ended up liking this book after having put it down after reading the first few pages. It is pretty dark, in that the entire story flips back and forth between a teenage guy and girl in different cities trying to survive after an alien invasion. Society is gone and anarchy reigns. The writing is fine and the book is readable but nothing much happens...and when nothing much happens that tells me the book was written with the intention of a sequel, and that tends to piss me off.
