150 Pounds: A Novel Of Waists And Measures (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Shoshana (215 pounds) and Alexis (100 pounds) both write popular blogs related to women and their weight. Shoshana's Fat and Fabulous preaches "health at any size," while Alexis' Skinny Chick lauds obesity as a national tragedy, and disgusting to boot. After the women meet (and loathe) each other on Oprah, they each experience changes in their lives that lead them both to weigh 150. I appreciate what this author is trying to do, and there are small glimpses of interesting character development and genuine insight into what it's like to struggle with your weight, whether you're thin or heavy. But good lord, is this poorly written. Ridden with cliches, ham-fisted dialogue, unevenly paced, and in dire need of editing. Unless you have a high tolerance for bad prose, and an unholy love of chick lit about the topic of body image, I'd avoid this. I thought the initial idea was interesting - two bloggers who deal with weight issues in markedly different fashions - one is overweight and one is underweight. No surprise in that both characters change viewpoints as the story progresses. I'll say one thing, I would love to be as heavy as the one character is reported to be and still wear the size clothing she does. I guess it doesn't pay to be short and fat!

What do You think about 150 Pounds: A Novel Of Waists And Measures (2012)?

Fun, mindless read. Could have used better editing, but overall a good story.
