A Song Of Ice And Fire #1-4: A Game Of Thrones/A Clash Of Kings/A Storm Of Swords/A Feast For Crows (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I enjoy fantasy, but typically turn up my nose at high/heroic fantasy in medieval settings. This series surprised me by sweeping me away. I felt literally addicted to reading them. I was nearly useless for weeks, wanting nothing more than to sink into the fascinating world of Westeros and its surrounding nations. I really enjoyed HBO's adaptation of the first book and eagerly anticipating following seasons. In my opinion, this series totally outpaces Lord of the Rings in its realistic, historic depiction of a world. A great fantasy series. I read these four books in the summer of 2011 right after the first season of the HBO series Game of Thrones. I did nothing else the entire month of June that year. The story is very complex, there are many, many characters, some of whom die. No one is safe, I think. The fourth book was something different, the POV changes to that of several of the "bad guys", and it was hard to wait until the fifth book to get more of the story on my favorite characters. But the storyline is interesting, and I was not bored.
