When I found out that there was a mini novel about Wyatt, I was ecstatic. Not only because I had finished both of the first books and was desperately waiting for the third book to come out, but because Wyatt is an interesting character. And I gotta say, this was not what I was expecting. I knew that Wyatt had some difficulty interacting with people, but I didn't know that she was not neurotypical and that she took such a big risk in getting the neural processor installed. It was interesting to get Wyatt's viewpoint on some of the situations from the other book, and I found her opinion of Tom interesting. Although short, this was a very enjoyable read. This was a fabulous addition to an already great start to what promises to be one of the best sci-fi YA series! This novella focuses on Wyatt Enslow, a socially awkward teenager who is recruited to join the other teens at the Pentagonal Spire shortly before Tom Raines (the main character of Insignia). The story follows her internal journey from socially unaware and awkward teenager, to suddenly socially aware, due to the new tech in her brain.I loved getting to read about Wyatt. She was my favorite character in Insignia, so it was great getting to see her story. My heart broke a little when I read about her emotional issues and the way certain characters treated her so poorly when she first moved into the spire. If anything, this novella has made me love her more.My only complaints about this novella are that it didn't explore Wyatt's story as much as I would have liked, and that it's a bit on the short side for a novella. I found that the story itself lacked the depth that I became accustomed to with Kincaid's writing in Insignia and I wish that she had gone more in depth with Wyatt's story. There was so much more to explore. Many scenes were told rather than shown, which made for a less active reading experience than I experienced with Insignia, but overall I thought it was some great bonus material!
What do You think about Allies (2013)?
Ehh, it seems to be a logic the same thing overandover... It has gotten much better!
