Arjuna: Saga Of A Pandava Warrior-Prince (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
The more I inclined my self towards Kauravas for I have read the Ajaya by Anand Neelakantan, the more this book made me question my choice. The writing was swift and comprehensible for a mere mortal. :D At the end I came to know so many great personalities of Mahabharata and it made me think how enrapturing it would have been to witness Kurukshetra as it happened. I have this intense urge to call the Mahabharata - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Even though I might have not read enough of it, Mahabharata is like the favorite teacher I never had. It puts all the characters with various inherent qualities and let you choose one for yourself to live with only after giving you the consequences of the choice. Even though I chose to be non-religious, I cannot help but praise this Epic of Mahabharata with deepest adoration because of it's myriads of lessons, characters, friendships, treachery, deception, follies, curses and mystical things and creatures. Anuja Chandramouli has done a great job of rewriting this great epic keeping the Pandava warrior in limelight and about his eminence which is only matched by Karna ( one of my favorite character) and I thank you for writing it as if the whole thing happened before our eyes. This epic is beautifully woven with interlinked stories of curses and benedictions where gods takes sides and provide with celestial weapons and all. I wish I was born in the Mahabharata period so that I could see that all happen with zestful eyes, even as a Nishada or a Suta. To someone who doesn't know much about mahabharatham - this is the ideal book to get a gist of the saga. However, I expected more from this book and it was a tad bit disappointing. I hoped the saga was told from the point of view of Arjuna - which it did not. I also expected the narration to be in chronological order - information was strewn here and there for us to match the puzzle. So if you already know the Mahabharatham - this book can be given a miss.
What do You think about Arjuna: Saga Of A Pandava Warrior-Prince (2013)?
