Barefoot Contessa Foolproof: Recipes You Can Trust (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Ina Garten is one the staples of the Food Network. She comes across as a wonderful, friendly person both on the television and in her cookbooks. Furthermore, the food pictures in Foolproof are absolutely gorgeous to the point of mouth-watering. However, I wasn't too impressed with the recipes I tried in this cookbook. They were good but not amazing to the point that I would want to save them for later use. This is not one I would buy. I own all of Ina's previous books, but they are starting to get a little repetitive, so I rented this from the library instead. I am glad I did so, because a lot of the recipes are very similar to ones in her earlier cookbooks, with maybe one variation to make it seem new. To me, that is not enough to justify buying a new cookbook. However, I did copy the following recipes, which looked AMAZING:Crab Strudels (they look like Southwestern seafood egg rolls)Tuscan mashed chickpeas (I already have her hummus recipes, but this was different)Lobster corn fritters (really unique and delicious looking)Raspberry crumble bars Mexican hot chocolate (I have her hot chocolate recipe, but I also love spicy chocolate)You will never hear me say a bad word about Ina - I love her recipes and her personal style. But if her cookbooks are just going to be rehashing the same old recipes, I am going to do the same thing going forward and stop buying her books.
