Ehh. "The story wrapped" is pretty much how I feel about these last two volumes. I probably should go back and reread the last volume and this volume to get a better sense of how the drama unfolded, but I'm honestly a little upset that the notes for the last volume pretty much gave away the twist to the story. Not everyone may recognize the name Arthur C. Doyle, but use it in the same sentence as the name Sherlock Holmes and everyone gets the reference. As I remember it in the previous volume, the beauty of the drama is that you're not really sure whether or not Sebastian is really dead. You're 99.99% that they wouldn't kill off Sebastian like that but worse things have happened. That and if you're positive that Sebastian is just faking it anyways, you wanna see how he pops back to life. There is also a sense of joy when you can place the name Arthur Conan Doyle and thus can guess the angle that Toboso is going for. It makes looking for the Sherlock Holmes homages fun to look for. The title page for Ch. 46 was especially fun when you see Tanaka's silhouette with the pipe. The joy of discovery is slightly deflated when the notes basically spell it all out for you. The story also loses its dramatic strength when Doyle's identity is revealed at the end of the previous volume. This is definitely more of a complaint of this particular edition and not really of the story itself, but those unnecessary spoilers really affected my enjoyment of this volume. The "joy of being right" never made it to this volume because it died a bitter death at the end of the previous volume. Stabbed in the heart like Sebastian. Also known as the conclusion to the Phantomhive murder mystery arc. A lot less action, a lot more resolution, and a new character that will have Sherlock Holmes fans jumping out of their seat (as if having the author himself in the story wasn't enough!). I love the Phantomhive staff in this one, especially Tanaka, who raised his coolness level 200% just in the first chapter. I also love that we saw more of Ciel without Sebastian and that he is capable of making relationships with other people. Also, I want a carrier owl too! I wonder if the mansion has an owlery of sorts somewhere on the grounds; I imagine Sebastian would be the one to take care of it.
