Being new to Westerns, but a lover of Steampunk, I really enjoyed this book. However, I was a little disappointed with the character development. I think the lack of depth written into the story is mainly because these are famous people, and we should already know who they are. But, being new to the Western genre, I'm not as familiar with the lore behind these characters. I think I missed some of the emotional connections because I had no reference or attachment to these characters. I was just reading a story about some guys (and gals) and what they did. But I didn't really know who they were. I'd still recommend this book to anyone who likes Westerns or Steampunk, but I may suggest they know a little more about the characters first. I've read at least a couple short stories, novellas and novels from Mr. Resnick. I've enjoyed most of them a lot. This was obviously supposed to be lite and fun, and it was, but it was very repetitious. I felt it could have been about 100 pages shorter and been much better. The ending scene was definitely not as exciting as I thought it would be either. I had fun doing my "cowboy" voice while reading Doc Holliday's parts to Shelley (my gf) and she liked it too. The appendices were a nice touch.
What do You think about Buntline Special (2014)?
I thought this was fun read - a mash-up of Wild West, Steampunk and a touch of horror.
