The concept of this book is fantastic. The language and the narrative are effective and fun to read. However, the illustrations bother me. On one hand, I dislike them. They are aesthetic displeasing to me, too sketchy and unattractive. On the other hand, they are rats. Rats are ugly. And the spreads effectively convey the confusion and the chaos with depth and perspective perfectly. But still. I just do not like how ugly the illustrations are. But it is still rather original and brilliant. So I give it 5 stars for narrative and execution of illustrations and not for aesthetic reasons. I don't know, this is a weird review of a weird book. It's so good...but it's not... January 8, 2014No duh. All the cheese is mine, and mine alone to grate and share. My mother-in-law gives me a sack of cheeses for Christmas every year. Of course, the Spouse actually has a nickname including the word cheese. And both the Offspring are quite keen. So, yeah, you had me at "cheese." I like the way the text builds, I like the illustration very much. And I really liked the words "rat law" together. Natasha, eleven, was amused as well.
For those who haven't read the back cover copy of the book, it would be fun to pair as a read-aloud with Millions of Cats. Just saying.
***January 8, 2015Those who forget the past are doomed to re-read it on the same date next year. Not that I'm complaining, I liked it even more this time.Library copy
What do You think about Cheese Belongs To You (2013)?
Hilarious! A great language lesson in adjectives accompanied by dynamic illustrations.

This would be great for any elementary teachers working on teaching adjectives.

HA! Would be fun (and challenging) to read out loud.
