Such a glamorous life she lived. After she’d dumped the last bucket into the tub, she laid her hands on the small of her back and leaned back, popping the kinks from her spine. While the water cooled, she undressed, then removed the pins from her hair. Maybe the other girls did go into town, but a leisurely bath sounded wonderful to Tabby. She stepped into water almost hot enough to burn and reached for a bar of rose-scented soap. With a sigh, she lowered herself until only her head remained above the water. It might be a silly indulgence, but she let the bar of soap float in order to send its fragrant tendrils through the water. Laying her head back against the tub’s rim, she allowed thoughts of Adam to drift into her mind. Monday would be a week since he left and no one had heard a word from him. She supposed she could ask Mr. Hastings if he knew anything, but the thought of talking to the weasel made her skin crawl.
