Dae Van Oorlog (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

There were parts of this book I liked, and other parts I thought were just okay. The concept behind the book--writing about David and his Mighty Men--is intriguing, and I think it helps that the author does not choose David as the character through which he will tell the story. But sometimes the story becomes confusing, especially during some of the fighting--and trust me, there's a lot of fighting--and in the way the author jumps around from storyline to storyline. I am interested enough to perhaps tackle the second book in the series, but am hoping for greater clarity to the overall story. I have been reading the book "Day of War" by Cliff Graham. The book was published post 9/11 in the late 2001. Cliff Graham wrote this book in order to show readers to end all wars after 9/11 because of the catastrophic event. This book would fall into the "action" category because there is a lot of fighting, blood and gore. The theme of this book to me is to be a hero and end all wars. This is the first book in the series "Lion of War." There are a total of three which I have only read the first one. An interesting thing about the author Cliff Graham, is that after 9/11 he felt like God was calling him to write a book representing the Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout the book they're Bible verses explaining how he wrote some of his stories and his thought process for writing them. The story talks about King David and his army. It tells the story about how David became King. It starts off talking about David just being an average soldier who is extremely loyal to his fellow soldiers. If you had to choose a "bad guy" in this passage then it would be the Amalikite army that David has to kill in order to save himself and his people. David eventually gets ambushed and his squad gets killed leaving only him. David must fight for survival in the wilderness, killing every Amalikite he can find just so he can get back to his city and warn his people about an up coming surprise attack. I cannot go into any more detail without giving away the ending that leads into the next book.In this book, they're a lot of things that will surprise you. David, does certain things that you won't even see coming. In the beginning you think you know about David, but once you start reading you see David turn into a completely different person. The book alway kept me on the edge of my seat while reading. I wanted to keep reading and I did not want to stop. It is actually very suspenseful and filled with action and adventure. It goes from killing Lions, killing Amalikites, all the to deception and betrayal. This book has non-stop action if you are into action books then I strongly recommend this book to you. In my opinion, I think the author was trying to put pieces of what happened to King David from the Bible and make a story using real characters and armies. Some parts of the story are make believe, but they're some parts where they actually happened. The author did a tremendous job illustrating the life of King David and what he had to go through in order to become King.Day of War is an amazing book. There is a lot of historical information in it and the author takes that, puts it in and then adds other stories to it to make a book. This is one of the few books that I would actually re-read.
