This is fictionalized history set in China between end of WW2 and 1970, telling the story of a "genius" who is recruited as a codebreaker by the Chinese government. Many of the narrators are university mathematicians. There are a lot of problems with the plot and prose of the book, which in the end simply isn't interesting. Unlike other good fictionalized history, this book only skims the surface of its subject matter. There is nothing for me to recommend.
Brilliant book! Gave it four stars instead of five because I never got used to his writing style.
