Who knew there was a gas leak as well? They scramble around with their hoses, but I just take in the flames. “There’s a beauty in fire. The way it dances, the way it moves.” Drew puts his arm around my shoulder before I smile. “I’ve always been fascinated by it. I’ve never actually tried it, but I think it’s beautiful.” Drew chuckles as I lay my head on his shoulder. “The angry black smoke filters through the air. Sometimes it chokes you, sometimes it floats right by. It’s like a figment of our imaginations. Some see the devil in the fire. Do you know what I see?” Looking over at Drew, I wait for him to tell me. “I see futures. I see all the mundane things that exist in this world. Fire can destroy, but they can rebuild. Nothing is ever really lost to them.” The words that Drew says to me always intrigue me. He always has a way with words that make sense to me, even if no one else does.
