It grew over five times that size by 7 AM. Perfect timing. In front of us was a guy with blonde hair, a Hawaiian shirt, and a black fedora that kept sing-talking about himself. He explained that he didn’t want to talk normally because he was trying to warm up his vocal cords. He got annoying real quick. Behind us was a girl in sweats. She had a long, light brown ponytail and wore earbuds while dancing in a way where I would have sworn she was trying out karate moves on us. Danny and I recited vocal warm ups together and he gave me pointers about my dance moves. We both had separate acts, he would go first and I’d follow right after — unless they break us up for whatever reason. A man with a headpiece handed us both our numbers and directed us into a room with other talents who were waiting anxiously for their turn to perform. The room was large and noisy from everyone practicing. There were large flat screen televisions set up with a live feed of the auditions. I watched closely, being pleasantly surprised by a majority of the contestants — there were a few cringeworthy ones as well.
