This book was given to me by a friend and I really enjoyed it. It definitely helped me to plan next years garden! Some of the suggestions were things I already did (why, I happen to prefer colorful greens and love artichokes!) others will change the way I currently eat (guess I'll switch from green to purple grapes). The info was good and well researched. Didn't seen woo woo at all, even when she discussed traditional beliefs about the plants. My only complaint is that there were tons of vegetables and fruits she completely left out! She didn't discuss any squash (except briefly mentioning them when discussing three sisters gardens), neglected a bunch of root vegetables (turnips, anyone?), never discussed peppers or other nightshades beyond tomatoes and potatoes, left out nuts, herbs, many types of greens (her brief mention of purslane and dandelion barely count), and many common tropical fruits like kiwi. I would have also appreciated a section on grains.All that being said, it was still an amazing book and a wealth of very good information that I will keep in mind from here on out when I shop for both food and seeds. I finished the book in two days too! (Though to be fair, I was on bedrest at the time) In a word: fascinating! If you are interested in healthy eating, a must. Robinson aggregates studies done all over the world to get a clearer picture of the healthiest foods, zooming in from the science to decisions you make browsing the grocery store, farm market or seed catalog. For example: red carrots are closer to the original, nutrition-dense plant than the more common orange -- and are, by the way, delicious! If you see them in the farmer's market, go for those. And she has many more specifics that can help us all truly use food as medicine. Foodies -- get this book.
