She walked up the stairs of the Faith, and paused to look down at the spot where she’d found Susan half-naked the day Darcy entered their lives. It was the same spot where she’d found Susan’s unresponsive, crumpled form. Her eyes misted, but only for a moment. Lizzy gave Susan a moment of silence, and then took a deep breath. Beyond the doors, the living still needed her.She quietly made her way downstairs to her office, ducking the busy volunteers who were surrounded by mountains of clothing and toiletries. She sank into her worn office chair and made a decision. She pulled out her cell phone and texted Darcy:Lizzy: Thank you for the letter. It helped. It had taken her a week to decide on that course of action, yet she regretted it as soon as she pressed SEND. But if she’d learned anything from Susan’s death, it was that there was no predicting the future. She wanted Darcy to know she wasn’t a monster…and that she didn’t think he was one, either. Her phone beeped and Lizzy’s stomach churned.
