I enjoyed reading the book Spork. The author Kyo Maclear talks about a fork and a spoon who created a spork. In the story spork feels lost and doesn't know where he belongs. He tries really hard to fit in with spoons and forks. Through out the story Sporks goal is to find a purpose in life. Many different cultures come to America and feel like they don't belong. Therefore I think this book did a wonderful job of portraying how many different races may feel when first coming to America. It is a struggle trying to find where you belong and if you're worth anything, however when you do find that purpose other people become more aware of your culture. Spork is a misfit in the cutlery drawer. He is not quite a spoon like his Mum, or a fork like his Dad. He doesn’t have a place at the table. He tries to fit in by changing his look, adding a bowler hat and then a pointy crown. One day, a messy thing arrives that can’t eat with a spoon or a fork. Spork comes to the rescue! This book is a wonderful way to teach diversity and being true to yourself. (The author is Japanese and British.) Similar titles written by author Amy Krause Rosenthal are: Spoon (2009) and Chopsticks (2012)
I love this book! What a creative story that celebrates diversity in families.

The art's beautiful and the idea is cute, but it left me a bit flat.
