I loved this book! The Icelandic connection was the hook that got me to buy the book, but I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and plot as well. I was especially taken with the language, both the author's and the Icelandic language. I agree with another reviewer that the ending was perhaps too abrupt.....all loose ends were tied up, which was not really necessary. i did leave this book longing for more......and am ready to book a trip to Iceland! I'd like to give this 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the story, the characters, and learning more about Iceland. It was a page-turner and a very good portrait of mental illness. However, the style was melodramatic and I guessed the "plot twist" while reading the Kindle sample chapter. The "twist" was so obvious that I wonder if it was manipulation by the author to try to make the reader feel smart. Anticipation of the twist was good enough - I did want to know how the character solved the "mystery." I'll be on the lookout for this author's next book.
What do You think about Freyas Geheimnis Roman (2008)?
Sorry, I'm quitting for now. I hate quitting books. I'm sure I'll get back to it eventually.
