He whipped it up with a clipped “Mendez.” “Hello, John.” It was Samantha Spencer’s voice. He would know that soft, sultry tone anywhere, even if he rarely heard it. A mild electrical current sizzled through him at the sound. It was pleasant, not overwhelming, and maybe even somewhat fascinating. “Sam. How did you get this number?” She laughed. “Don’t ask, don’t tell. Suffice it to say I got it.” The secure phone on his desk was known to only a few people. Very few. When it rang, he knew it was important. Perhaps even critical to the safety of the world. But this was Sam, and she didn’t sound as if she had a pressing issue for him. “What do you need from me?” This time her laugh sent a prickle of arousal down his spine, tingling into his balls. “Oh, Johnny. If we had but world enough and time.” She cleared her throat. “But no, this is about your situation in Acamar.” His senses went on high alert. He hadn’t been told she was on this mission in any capacity, but apparently she was.
