Shane yelled from the kitchen. “Dammit, what now,” she thought to herself. She had thought once she turned 18 her stepdad would stop treating her like a child, but no such luck. “Coming, Shane,” she called sweetly. He knew that voice and knew it was totally fake. He hated when she did it and that’s why she did it. When she reached the kitchen he was standing in front of the dishwasher, tapping his foot in an annoying way only he could pull off. The minute she stepped in the kitchen, he pulled open the dishwasher. “Does this look empty to you, Jade?” Seeing that there were dishes in it, she assumed he knew the answer already. “Sorry, Shane, it slipped my mind. I’ll do it right now,” she apologized. “You were supposed to do it yesterday, Jade. Maybe you’re spending too much time with what’s his name,” he said with disgust. He hated “what’s his name and didn’t even try to hide it.
