Sexual fantasies and affairs taking place in a futuristic dystopian America? Atwood you saucy little minx! Marital problems aren’t uncommon, but adding in the dystopian prison certainly adds some flavor.A lot of story packed into a small package, I was drawn in completely and had a hard time putting this one down. The whole concept of Consilience is just absolutely fascinating, truly a unique take on the dystopian regime. The story is very heavily character driven and I just can’t get enough of Stan and Charmaine, they are certainly an interesting couple. The story kept me on my toes in anticipation for the events to unfold and the ending left me in shock, I had to instantly pick up the second one! After reading The Handmaid’s Tale and then this wonderful little novella, it completely sealed the deal for me. I am completely in love with Atwood’s writing. :) It's really too bad that the first section of this story is from the perspective of a man detailing his run-of-the-mill fantasies about his 'neighbor.' He is such a dull character it is difficult to believe he exists inside of the dyso-utopian world Atwood has created. From his descriptions, this world at first seems just another BF Skinner-esque social experiment (Bing Crosby instead of rap!). Fortunately, the point of view does shift to his wife -- which is the part at which it becomes worth reading.
What do You think about I'm Starved For You (2012)?
This is a nice little scifi story. Interesting, not too long, but not exceptional either.
