Maya discovers that she is dead but heaven isn't was she imagined it would be. Zachariah, her spirit guide, informs her of the journey that she must take in order to be reunited with her loved ones. Having to 'relive' her past lives, she must learn Heaven's lessons in order to be with those she misses most. The consequence, having to live through another difficult life. Her first life is as a high priest in ancient Egyptian times. Sokaris works as a dream magician in a temple dedicated to Serais, God of Dreams. Nebu, God wife of Serapis, and Sokaris must pick a girl to be Nebu's adopted Royal Daughter after her apprentice is cast out of the role. Bastet is a 15-year-old royal dancer who catches Sokaris' eye. Nebu and Sokaris choose Bastet to become the Royal Daughter. Sokaris does what he can to insure that Bastet remains in her chosen position. One day, the meet in the hall and agree to a secret meeting in the dream-incubation chamber.Maya's second life is that of a 16-year-old Spartan girl. Her third life, she is young Irish boy who is captured by Vikings. The last life we see is that of Elizabeth, a doctor's wife in plague-ridden London. This book was not what I expected - in a good way. It's healthy brain candy for history buffs. She does a great job of quickly reconstructing each era in history, describing each life vividly and well.In Book I, she begins in ancient Egypt, hops to Sparta, then the Viking raids, touching down during the Black Death. I'm looking forward to Book II, which I assume will include the Renaissance & French Revolution.
