La Musica Segreta Dei Ricordi (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
This story did not even seem like a fiction but more like a memoir of several different very good people who poured out their souls and emotions on the pages of the book. They were all affected by the horros of military dictatorships, either WWII or Pinochet's regime in Chile, one way or the other. However, in spite of their misfortunes, they all rebuilt their lives in a foreign country never loosing their inner beauty in the process.I really enjoy reading books by this author and look forward to another one. Octavio is a young and ambitious student who loves Literature. Growing up in a lower class family, he is considered penniless by most families but he is passionate about Literature. One day he comes across a beautiful woman, Salome who takes his breath away. Captivated by her gorgeous looks, he is devoted to spending every moment with her without the presence of her relatives. Often they secretly meet up to give in to the bitter temptation that they are faced against. Unlike Octavio, Salome is from an upper class family who will disapprove of her courting a man like Octavio. However Octavio convinces Salome's parents of his love for their daughter. Although they apprehensively agree for them to be together, Octavio must first conquer pleasing Salome parents. In addition, Octavio gets a big break when he is approached from a acting agent who thinks he is perfect for movies. Octavio is uncertain about acting but in order to be financially stable, he obliges.Furthermore, Octavio is spending less and less time with his wife. Forsaking his duties as a parent, Salome thinks that he is taking his job too seriously. Salome misses the touch of her husband hand, the warmth of his presence and the intimacy they shared. Octavio soon gets caught in a political debate, causing many tirades with his wife. It soon corrupts his marriage and everything that is important to him crumbles. Salome starts to look at other places for affection, betraying her love ones in the process. The most important factor is the love that ties Octavio and Salome together, it is the only hope antidote to their pain.I was torn between rating this a 3 or a 4. Although the story was written beautifully, fully developed characters and had splendid consistency;Samuel's story with his wife should have been divided into parts. I felt that they contributed to the story but they were filler in some areas. I also lost tremendous respect for some characters, they became fickle and unreasonable. However it was a great follow up to the- The Lost Wife.
