.... This book was very 'meh' I picked this up at the library, and checked it out as the description piqued my interest.Story of a naive girl who gets pregnant, flees home before anyone can notice and goes to London where she very luckily is handed the opportunity to become an apprentice of a pyrotechnic. Sounded like it had some good promise. I have to say it was a boring read. It had the potential of being a lot more than what it was, as far as the story line goes and even in the romance that was slightly simmering there. The story was completely anti-climactic and the ending was *YAWN*Sad to say that although I am glad I finished another book, I feel almost like I've just wasted the last week or so reading it. Sad. Bears. - CJ Not as good as I expected it to be. I love historical fiction and the subject of Agnes an impoverished single mother learning the firework trade seemed a little different and an appealing read. However the characters never really connected for me, there wasn't really enough depth to them and the ending was a little lame. However I did find it an easy read and got to the end without too much difficulty.
Excellent, excellent. brilliant! Sad to have finished it. What a good book and her first too!

A good historical novel should evoke time and place and this one did not.
