Laddertop, Volume 1 (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Laddertop is based in the future where aliens placed four ladders around the world that go into outer space. It is about these two girls, best friends that both go to this academy to become workers on the ladders. Azure Miles and Roberta Holten are both in middle school when they both got into an academy where you can become a worker on the ladders. These girls are quite opposite Azure is loud and would get into fights. Roberta is a quiet, person how thinks things through. At the academy they mature and finally the big day comes where they will be chosen to become workers on the ladders.“I’d be teaching her [Azure] that actions have no consequences that you can get what you want even when you break the rules. And that is not a lesson I am prepared to teach.” Azure is in the principal’s office after getting into a fight. The fight showed us that azure is easily provoked into a fight because of a comment the other girls made. Laddertop is a good book for anyone interested in science fiction. The book is very adventurous. It is great for people looking for an interesting book series. This was a fun read. I got this for my manga-loving daughter too. I thought she would like it - but the subject matter did not interest her. But, I loved the subject matter and I am anxiously looking forward to the next installment. Some of it is reminiscent of Ender's Game (young kids being sent to do work that only they can do). But, it is a totally different story and the protagonist is very interesting.
