Elise came in, followed by May. “Should we bring breakfast up for you?” Elise asked, sympathy filling her voice. “That would be lovely,” Lily nodded in relief. She hadn’t felt like eating the night before and was absolutely famished. She was not quite sure how she was going to get the spoon to her mouth but at this point she did not care. “Wonderful. After breakfast, we are going to get you up and dressed for a short visit with Isabelle.” Elise plumped the pillows on a chair while she talked. “Elise, you can’t be serious. I cannot move from this bed. I can barely lift a finger.” “It is important not to allow yourself to stiffen up any further, and, besides, it will help you receive more invitations if you socialize with the ladies first.” Elise did not look at Lily as she spoke. The older woman knew what a chore socializing with Isabelle was. Within the hour May had her out of bed and ready to go and, Elise had been right, she felt better as she slowly moved.
