it's not earth shattering, it's not over the top suspenseful, but it is entertaining, and I enjoyed the premise and a take on future technologies. the ending spent a bit too much time explaining everything literally, rather than pulling together this the reader could have assembled while reading. far too many chapters end with obvious cliff hangers that are resolved in less than a paragraph in the next chapter, which sort of felt like a bad episodic tv series. This is the third book by Richards that I have read and I am still impressed. The pace is good, the stories plausible, and the characters endearing. I enjoy his stories because the tech is possible and yet utterly fantastic. He really does imagine the future in many ways. I also like the ability he has to maintain the tension and even ratchet it up when I can't think it could get more intense. My only criticisms are that there is a bit too much "perfect place, perfect time". A bit of the old Deux ex machina taken maybe a touch too far; however, this really is fiction and so I don't begrudge it. You really don't want the good guys to die. Thanks for another fun romp in your future world Mr. Richards, I look forward to more books from you! By the way, the psychopaths were some of the best I have seen in this genre.
