My Grandfather's Coat (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a delightful tale about an immigrant in America who becomes a tailor and who sews himself a beautiful coat for his wedding day. Over the years the coat gets worn, and so he makes it into a jacket, and then a vest, tie, and finally a toy mouse for his great-grandchild. This book teaches children about how to be resourceful and reform or reuse the things that mean the most to them so that nothing is wasted. I think this would be a good read-aloud for a preschooler due to its repetition (although it could be a little too long). It would also be a good read or read-aloud for a younger elementary aged child.
