A crew, composed of Earth’s best of the best, is launched into space on a mission of discovery beyond the Solar System. The crew quickly discovers that they have landed in the middle of an intergalactic war and must fight or run back home. Of course they decide to stay and battle the ugly aliens. The book is fast paced and the threat of danger permeates from beginning to end. Very enjoyable adventure. Nothing wrong with this book, actually torn between 3 and 4 stars. As far as the plot goes, it is exactly what you'd expect. Heroic, morally unambiguous soldiers, doing heroic things and saving planets and selflessly fighting dangerous spacebattles against overwhelming odds and stuff. A bit like Star Trek TNG or Stargate kind of heroes. If one is actually expecting these things it is a cool story that reads away easily. The only reason I didn't give it a 4th star is because of the editing, or lack thereof. It is already mentioned that the start of the book was one of the first things the author wrote, but throughout the book there is just a lot of butchered sentences and confusing constructions. Even without an editor it feels like just proofreading the finished product once could have taken out more than half of those.Still gonna read the next one(s), I suspect that with better editing and an equally exciting story, it could easily be a 4 star book to me.
What do You think about Odyssey One (2011)?
Enjoyed the book. Will need to read the further novels in the series.
