I LOVED The Ranger's Apprentice series, saw the premise for this series, and thought, "Nah!" Oh goodness was I wrong! From the 1st book I was hooked. It's got everything that an adventure book needs: well written characters, an awesome plot, and enough left undiscovered to keep me hungering for the next one. You really can't go wrong with John Flanagan. He's a master storyteller. I would start with The Ranger's Apprentice series, and then try this series, but you really don't have to. They're great on their own! After finishing this book, I was left with no questions. The ending was really predictable, and the overall plot wasn't as entertaining as the first 3 books in the series, which were awesome. It didn't leave me with the same awed face when I ended the previous books, there wasn't as much suspense. It wasn't a book that I could sit down and read for hours like the others were, but it was still decent. I would still recommend it because it was a good read. I will still be reading the next books in the series yet to come, and update how well those books were.
