This is one of the best books I've ever read. De Robertis is a powerful writer who tells her story so well, I couldn't put it down, even though it was very hard to read about the horrors she described in parts of the book. Something about the South American writers I've read (A Hundred Years of Solitude and House of the Spirits come to mind first) believably combines the sweep and arc of life with the mystical and carries you forward in the story I was with her every step of the way. sure I was reading a first-hand account of Perla's life. Then I read the book jacket and realized it wasn't her life. Masterful is a good word for her writing. I ordered her other novel,The Invisible Mountain, yesterday. I can't wait to read it. Read this book! Die Idee, die dem Buch zugrunde liegt, finde ich spannend, die Umsetzung gefällt mir leider nicht. Besonders die Sprache ist so pseudo-poetisch, dass es nervt. Frei nach Tucholsky kann ich natürlich nicht beurteilen, ob hier ein Mord geschehen ist oder eine Leiche fotografiert, weil ich nur die Übersetzung gelesen habe. Aber auch der tote Hauptcharakter wird für meinen Geschmack überstrapaziert. Dazu der spiralartige Erzählstil, der mich nie so ganz einsteigen ließ ... Lediglich die letzten ca. 100 Seiten fand ich spannend, in denen wird dann auch chronologisch erzählt.Vorsicht übrigens: Teilweise ist das Buch wirklich eklig zu lesen. Ich musste es zwischendurch mit Übelkeit weglegen.
