Phenomena: The Lost And Forgotten Children (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
EASILY the most exciting, hilarious, painful, confronting and gripping journey a novel has ever taken me on…. I’ll admit, I’m not a huge “reader”, whether it be due to not enough time, or an over-active attention span of a Nat, but in all honesty this book was impossible to put down! I read the entire story in 2 days straight. A novel ‘chock-a-block’ with emotion. I found myself laughing in hysterics (I won’t spoil the book – you’ll see what I mean) at some parts, and feeling absolute heartache at others.Susan Tarr has the amazing ability to catch you and draw you into the story with her humor and sharp wit. I love her specific writing style which has a feeling of ‘realness’ to it, tender at times, uncomfortably and brutally honest at others, but always with quirky nuances woven between the pages. This is a beautifully written story of courage and triumph. I have no doubt it will fill you with a myriad of emotion as you are absorbed further and further into Malcom’s world. FIVE STARS!! (10 if I was able) The very first thing that caught my eye in this book was the beautiful and eloquent writing style of Tarr. Each of her sentences were like a beautifully woven melody. The story is a mixture of fact and fiction, which for me, made the story much more of an emotional journey than a reading experience. It still amazes me how society used to treat those who were different. It broke my heart even more knowing that some of the individual stories in this novel were taken from reality. It adds a special touch to this book that makes it a unique tale. There really wasn't anything that I could say to give critique to this author because I think that this is a fantastic book. I'm not one to re-write the synopsis for the book in my reviews. I think what you really want to know is, should you read this book? If you want a deep, emotionally impacting read, then my answer to you is yes.I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my fair and honest review.
