I'm currently reading this book, but have issues with it. First of which is Mary of Bethany, sister to Martha and Lazarus, was not the same person as Mary Magdalena. Secondly, Mary Magdalena, who Jesus healed and who followed him to Calvary, was not a prostitute or harlot. I realize this book is a fictional account, but confusing Biblical Characters serves no purpose.I've read other books by the Thoene's which I really enjoyed, but I'm not so sure that I'll finish When Jesus Wept. This story details the depth of love and brotherhood between Lazarus and Jesus. Told in first person through Lazarus' eyes, the reader is transported back in time to the vineyards of Bethany and the temples of Jerusalem. I was particularly impressed with the telling of his time in heaven before Jesus called him back to life on Earth. This was my first book by the Thoenes and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
What do You think about Quando Jesus Chorou (2013)?
I liked that it brought the characters to life from the bible in a narrative that seemed realistic.
