Miriam continued down the aisles, picking up books discarded in the wrong place and, every once in a while, picking up trash left on the ends of shelves. Sometimes, she traced her fingers along the spines of the books and looked for titles of books she hadn’t read. There were remarkably few in the classics section, but the sciences were something she hadn’t delved into much. She began humming to herself as her long legs swished beneath her skirt and time ticked by in agreeable silence.
