While the rhythm isn't perfect, the humor in the illustrations make up for anything lacking. Seven chicks hatch with a mighty crack and immediately demand to be fed. Mom does her best buy by the time she feeds all seven she is exhausted. There is a nice twist at the end, that made all of the moms in my story time audience laugh out loud. Great read for Mother's day or to add to a bird themed story time. This story follows along the lines of the rhythm of 5 little ducklings or 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed...but with seven hungry baby birds. Mama bird goes out one at a time to find something for each of her chicks to eat. By the 7th trip she is exhausted, just when she thinks it is her time to rest, your off-spring are all awake again. What's a mama bird to do? Call on dad. Cracked me up.
A counting down story that rhymes & ends with a satisfying twists for feminists.
