It's taken me a night to think about this book. The black and white depiction of this future world adds to the bleak society that exists on the Snow Piercer. As a post apocalyptic story it's depiction of this society that depends on staying on the rails and obeying the rules is thought provoking. As usual it falls flat with it's depiction of women, but as a complete story it's quite compelling - in a dark bleak way. Snowpiercer volume 2 picks up about 15 years after an accident caused the crash to stop moving causing panic and really among the occupants of the cars. When a ruler has absolute power and control over a group of people now does he ready when that leadership is challenged by someone with different ideals and goals? Revenge and murder of course! That's what happens when a young explorer has the audacity to survive a suicide mission he'd been tasked with in order to erase him from people's minds and prevent him from causing any more problems. While the story line continues along the same path as the original (volume 1) some of the larger plot points felt rushed and murky at times.
Ridiculously bleak, but better than the first collection. Highly recommended!

Great followup to vol. 1, I hope Legrand writes more.
