She visited the offices of the Mirror, the Journal, the News, the Sentinel, and the Sun, behaving as inconspicuously as possible. In her day clothes, there was nothing to give her away as working for the Steampunk Carnival. She merely mentioned to secretaries, reporters between stories, and a few hyper-minded editors that they might want to keep a closer eye on the carnival. If they wanted to get the real story of it, they should not dress too well or flash their cameras where everyone could see them. The reporters might reap new headlines out of the establishment in the coming weeks. Magdalene refused to give her name, simply stating she had intimate knowledge of the carnival and knew that something big was brewing. The newspapers would do well to prepare themselves. Katya walked the grounds that night, mulling this over. No one seemed to be who she thought they were. Magdalene snuck around downtown, feeding information to the papers. Mary hid her worsening disease, doctoring herself behind closed doors and hoping she could beat the overwhelming odds stacked against her getting well.
