Tears Of A Tiger (1996) - Plot & Excerpts

"Tears of a Tiger is one of my favorite books. It’s about a boy who blames himself for the death of his best friend after a basketball game. From the very beginning it had me hooked. The book had me in tears within the first couple of pages. This continued through out the book, like an emotional roller coaster. I Loved the plot of the story because it was realistic and their was no story book ending. The author did an amazing job of writting the story and planning out the plot, the plot was amazing. The book is also one of my favorites because it was very realatable. It also was an easy book to relate to because it deals with the normal things of a teenager living in violent Philadelphia. Many teen s deal with death in the " City Of brotherly Love". Within the first couple of pages a great victory occurs, however it is followed by a horrible tragedy. A high school basketball team wins a game, great victory. The star players are excited and wanted to go out and celebrate. They end up drinking and driving. They get into a car accident and three of the boys escape the car before it catches fire. However one friend is stuck in the car and the boys stand there helplessly as they watch and hear their friend burning to death. I was in tears, and it had me hooked. I couldn’t put the book down because I just had to finish reading and find out what would happen. The author grabbed my attention in the very beginning and never let it loose throughout the book. I love the way the author tells the story. She doesn’t just tell the story through narration. She tells it through phone conversations, letters, and newspaper articles. She even includes the high school newspaper and the student’s personal essays they had to do for homework. Each element tells the story, and each has a different point of view. This really added to the book because you just weren’t told a story you were shown the story through every way possible. This book it also part of a series of books that tell the same story but through different people. Finally, I loved the book because it was easy to relate to. As a teenager who has lost both of her parents to natural causes. I am really well with death so all the death that occured in this book really triggered a lot of emotions for me. It was about teenagers dealing with school, relationships, the streets, and just everyday life. It really touched me when their friend was kilt. They all talked about how they thought they would live forever because they were young. Especially Robbie Washington, the won who was killed because he was the star basketball player and had a bright future ahead of him. It really goes with the saying we have today, “da good die young”. Especially today because it seems like every young person knows at least one friend that was kilt at a very young age. To conclude, this is a very good book and I would recommend it to all teenagers to read. It is a very touching book. You can also actually learn from this book, and it teaches you a good life lesson. The book is very engaging, especially the way the Author writes. I think all young people can relate to this book and learn something.

In the novel Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper many unexpected things take place. The novel is based on a very devastating car accident that involved four young men that attended Hazelwood High. Andrew Jackson, better known as Andy in the novel, was driving the vehicle. Due to the victory that they had got that night they decided to celebrate it by drinking beers that Andy had in the trunk of his car. Intoxicated Andy began to swerve and crashed. Andy and his two other friends, B.J. and Tyrone, escaped the car. On the other hand Robert Washington, Rob, was the only victim that couldn't and died. He was trapped in the car and Andy couldn't do anything but watch him burn to death.Throughout the book Andy starts to take all the blame day by day and feels that the accident is his fault. The death of his best friend starts to take a toll on him and he can't get the image of him burning to death right in front of him out of his mind. Andy has flashbacks of moments with Rob and has a hard time letting it go. Andy talks to his basketball coach about everything that is going on, but even after that talk he still had a lot of guilt. He starts to see a psychologist that helps him stop feeling guilty of the incident just because he was driving. Keisha his girlfriend is the only person he feels like he has left, but even after a couple weeks he even begins to push her away. Andy wishes it was him that died in the accident instead of Rob, and after Keisha breaks up with him for dragging it on, it becomes to much for him. He goes home after school one day and commits suicide. Some people are very heartbroken, while others call him a coward for making them go through it all over again, but this time it wasn't on accident.I believe that Tears of A Tiger is a very interesting and touching book. If you like sports this book will be very easy to get into. It shows you that unexpected things can happen at anytime. Even though sometimes something might be your fault, you must learn to let it go in order to move on. The story isn't just coming from Andy's perspective, but also from other friends affected by this tragic. It keeps you guessing and wondering what is going to happen next.

What do You think about Tears Of A Tiger (1996)?

This book is about a kid who killed one of his friends and feels guilty about it. He does a lot to try to help him self but he just can not. hr tries talking to a friend going to a theropis and still he can not get over it. then something happens with his girl friend and then he tries to get even more help but he can't. It is not working as well as he wanted it to be. later on in this book he does something terribley wrong. This connects to me because i once had the same thing happen to me. i felt really sad that he did that. I really connect with this character. He got alot going on right now and he cannot just deal with it. I have the same problem. I have alot going on and i can't deal with it. I would rate this book a 4****star because it is very descriptive. this book also realates to alt of people about hat is going on. This book is about a boy named Andrew who has driven his friends partying while drunk and had crash all of the boys got out except for one.......Robert......,.. He got stuck and they all watched him die. But Andrew took the pain the most he had felt a lot of depression, pain, and sadness. He couldn't help live with all of this pain that held him down so had a choice to not feel it anymore. He committed sucide with his fathers shotgun..... After this all of his friends felt even more sad not just from one death but two they all were mad because he wouldn't even ask for help or tell them. So they all kept a big scar on them and his little brother the most. He felt so much sadness that he had no older brother to help him in life. So he went to his grave he prayed for him and said "it's ok to put tears on a tiger" This book really had me sad and at the ended I cryed because it was so powerful most stories have a happy ending and they don't have much meaning but this one was tragic and had a lot of meaning and power. It touches and makes the reader know exactly how they felt and it's a huge thing for teenagers to not drink and drive and also not to commit sudicide because there's people who care about you
