Tender Graces (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This book took me a couple chapters to get in to as the flow between present and past was a bit choppy. But the narrator voice was compelling and the content reminded me a bit of The Glass Castle. Found myself skimming sections that dragged on a bit about the main character's inner struggle, and I found that some of the characters didn't feel real, but it was a quick read that did make me think a lot about the impact of childhood trauma and the bright spots some adults can play in a child's life. Walked away with a good picture of resiliency and forgiveness. I loved this book! I actually read it a few years ago, but have re-read it several times! Such a beautiful story, but sad and touching. Such a moving description of beautiful and strong natures, as well as weak and selfish. But we can understand how everyone came to be as they are and can love most of them... Virginia Kate is such a great character, tough, hurt, but understanding and forgiving. So many beautiful descriptions of place as well. The story catches you and will not let go! I have read all Magendie's work and always want more!
