Thanks A LOT, Emily Post! (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
This is a book playing off the etiquette book by Emily Post. Now, her etiquette book was meant to be kind of funny and more about moral rules than physical manners and such. This is a funny book about children who are upset about their mom's recent obsession with Emily Post's book. The book ends up on the mom's bad list too because of her children. They used her own book against her. This was a goofy way to teach about manners and such. I thought this was an engaging book that children could definitely relate to in their lives. I enjoyed reading this book and I think it could definitely be fun for students too. A quirky story about some very unruly clever kids trying to get away from Emily Posts’ rules and regulations. I liked the story, but somehow I missed the note at the beginning the first time I read it explaining the ghost like figures in the story, which caused me all sorts of confusion. After I found it and re-read the story, I felt much better about the whole thing. The illustrations are very fun, energetic and bright. The main character looks like a punk pixie and seems a bit out of place with the other children, but it given his rebellious personality it works. Because there are many things being tackled here (manners, history, breaking the rules) the narrative can seem a little all over the place as if they are trying to cram too much stuff in. Bun the nature of the story is a bit chaotic so it all works out in the end
