The Baker Street Letters (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This is an okay book. I was hoping to start on a new cozy mystery series, but I guess this won't be the one. This is (most) probably the first and last book I will read of this series. It was okay in a way that watching-anything-on-TV-when-there's-nothing-else-to-do kind of okay. There were some chapters that I found unnecessary, which I think the author was trying to be literary--you know, details, details, details. And then towards the end, it just rambles off and then ends without providing a satisfying resolution to the entire premise of the story. The characters were not very interesting and I think the author was trying hard to make Reggie a dashing, attractive man. I didn't like that Laura, his love interest, kept dropping very obvious hints that she liked him, but Reggie was not very receptive to it. It makes Laura kind of a needy character, chasing Reggie, when she's a beautiful actress who could do a lot better than him. Just discovered this great series featuring barrister Reggie Heath and his solicitor brother Nigel whose offices are located at 221b Baker Street, London. As a condition of their office lease (first book I've ever read where a lease provision is crucial to the plot!), the Heath brothers are required to answer all letters addressed to Sherlock Holmes which are delivered to their offices on a daily basis. Great writing and fun characters. I highly recommend the series to all the Anglophiles out there. This would be a great addition to Masterpiece Mystery!

It was not at all what I expected. I did not like any of the characters or the story.
