Abraham and Franck (as James S.A. Corey) fill-out their setting with well-crafted novellas that address back-story and context. My favourite thus-far has been Gods of Risk. The Churn depicted Earth-bound life on "basic" (welfare) - addressing street-level crime, living, and dying in a near-future urban context. The story provides background to one of the series' main-characters. I found this back-story less compelling than the depiction of the setting.A decent read. This was a better novella than Book 2.5, but it still wasn't as good as the normal books. I didn't mind the world building this time because I kinda saw where it was going. As such, the ending is pretty predictable.I like how Timmy knows his sociopathic nature, and so he doesn't trust his own moral judgement. Instead he tries to align himself with what he deems to be good people and relies on their judgement.
