He hadn’t yet determined his answer, but he knew one thing after mulling the facts. He respected the Ranger immensely and would give him an answer as soon as possible. Bass couldn’t wait to discuss the matter with Daisy and see what she thought about it. After all, she wanted the best for Petula. She saw deep into his sister’s heart at the woman Pet could become. As he finished getting ready for the morning, Bass wondered what Daisy would say when he told her he planned to ride into town with everyone. She’d probably tell him it was too soon and that might prove true. But the thought of her and his sister leaving him here with Myrtle seemed less appealing. He liked the cook well enough, and she hadn’t bitten his head off recently, but going to town sounded promising. He’d just tell Daisy that he wanted to pay Doc Thomas a visit. If the medic saw him capable of a short fifteen-or twenty-minute ride then maybe he could determine how long the rest of the recovery might take.
