A lovely read with delightful characters and a quickstep for most of the book. If you enjoy Brit-lit-wit, this book has it for you. However, the ending, I'd say the last 1/5 of the book lost pacing and fell terribly flat after the big reveal. The book would have faired better changing Round the sequence of events at the end. So sadly, as you round out those many hundreds of pages, you find yourself finishing just to finish. The Luminaries was a thorough and interesting read, that definitely made me think. This is the first books I've read that has been over 800 pages and based in the past. I enjoy historical texts, so this book has been a delight. This book has many different genres and hidden messages. The Luminaries is a crime/murder, historically based romance novel written with Young Adults in mind. It was truly mind boggling, even thought I felt that it was extremely difficult to initially get into, but after you break the first couple of chapters, you can happily read the rest in a couple of weeks. I personally enjoyed it and I would probably read it again, despite its length."'Listen.' 'What is it?''The rain.'"
What do You think about The Luminaries (2013)?
It took me a while to get started but the story unfolds in increasingly creative ways.
