A friend recommended this book and I'm so glad that I read it. It is one of those books that will live with me for a long time. It is also one of those books that makes you feel like you have read it before. Maybe it is because the theme of birth is such a universal one. It reminded me of my births. Born out of the stories of many wombs, this is a beautiful book of light and love, that will travel straight to your heart and stay there forever. I very rarely give 5-stars for a book. This one definitely deserved it! I loved the medical information about birth years ago. I loved the various backstories, woven into the main story of the midwife who kept a diary and tried not to be arrested for her work! I also appreciated the backstories of the various black families during the early days of the race riots in the early 1900s. This book had so many great elements, woven into one beautiful story about life, trials and the constant effort to do the right thing! I recommend this one HIGHLY!
