The Reluctant Assassin is the 1st of the W.A.R.P series by Eoin Colfer. W.A.R.P stands for Witness Anonyomous Relocation Program. Chevie, a 17 year old, was part of a pilot program by the FBI that puts places teens into schools to monitor possible terrorist activity. Due to being exposed on TV, Chevie is sent to England and the program disbanded. It is here that the story and the action begins. This Sci-fi warps between Victorian England and modern times. Chevie is watching the capsule when.... out comes an dead old man and young teen, Riley. Yes, time travel. Riley is followed into the future by Garrick, his "owner". Garrick wishes to gain all info on the future and the ins and out of time travel to become famous in Victorian England.Great story with lots of action. There is violence. Middle school students are going to enjoy this series. An inventive story involving time travel between Victorian and modern England plus a seriously evil sociopath chasing the two protagonists. The evil character was my least favorite part of the book, though I'm sure there's plenty of kids who will enjoy how creepy and scary he is. I really liked the main characters - Riley (the mentee of Garrick, the creepy evil guy) and Chevron Servano (the teenage FBI agent who was sent to England as punishment for a mission gone badly). Chevron's Native American background is nicely integrated into the story, and is a great example of how to do diversity well in literature.

Entertaining YA book of time travel. I listened to the audio version and the reader was great.
