Road novel - is this a road novel? As Julianna, a woman who needs to return to her past, Elijah - a young African-American scared of everything, - and Jon - on the run from his responsibilities are traveling by car to Julianna's home town. The three of them cause several deaths, a fire or two, and bring the wrath of a deputy sheriff down on them. Each finds themselves changed by the journey. It's been a really long time since a book has brought me to tears. There were so many moments while reading this story where I wanted to dive into the pages and hug it's main characters. Prior to picking up this book in the "NEW" section at my local library I had never heard of Noah Bly and that's exactly what I liked about it. I love reading new authors and I was so moved by how well crafted Bly put this story together. It's brilliantly interwoven from past to "present." Your heart aches for the main character, Julianna and the two strangers she picks up on her journey. Bly also added humor and witty dialogue in places that made you feel like you were with these characters through their course. Lastly, as an aspiring novelist myself, this book has awakened something in me again. The passion to write my story! Thank you Noah Bly! I'm so glad I found you and hope to read more from you soon.
