I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. The Torturer’s Daughter really makes think about right vs. wrong. It’s a gripping novel about a world in which the government wants complete control over its citizens and will do anything, including killing people, to keep order. It starts with a frightening phone call and the book stays suspenseful throughout. The main character, Becca, the torturer’s daughter, was a naive girl before that phone call. After that night, her world changes and she questions everything about her beliefs, her friends, her mom, and her government. What she goes through is heart-wrenching and I felt so frustrated because the poor girl has no one to confide in without taking a chance on being executed or getting her friends executed. The Torturer’s Daughter is a disturbing and thought-provoking dystopian novel that I couldn’t put down. It’s definitely a young adult novel you don’t want to miss. What if you found a great evil? What would you do? Then complicate this predicament with the realization that the source of this evil is the person who cares for you most, reminds you to do your homework, gave you life, and looks out for you at every turn. Ms. Cannon has crafted an insightfully written and well paced tale set in a fascist society. All of her characters, good, bad, and in between, are believable and sympathetic."The Torturer's Daughter" artfully takes you through an insidious reality never failing to stare it in the eye, hear its reason, and face its paradoxes.
What do You think about The Torturer's Daughter (2012)?
brilliant book, great characters & conflict, and a commendable absence of angsty love drama :)
