The Wandering Falcon. Jamil Ahmad (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This book started out right and grabs your attention in the first chapter. I kept waiting for something to tie the stories in each chapter together and for the story line to come back to the boy, now a man, Tor Baz. However, in several chapters he appears in only a cameo role and that is all. In some chapters it is not apparent what it has to do with him. These are stories set in brutal conditions, in a brutal society. I found it impossible to become emotionally invested in any of the characters because the narrative jumps around and characters change so often. I could see the value of the stories from a cultural stand point, but this was not an easy read, or something I would read again. a remarkable book. written in very simple and lucid prose, the book shows a great deal of knowledge about the regions, people and their ways of life. the writer knows them too well.sentimental yet brutal, indifferent yet familiar; the characters are real and human. a book about the deeper regions along the porous borders of afghanistan, iran and pakistan. life is an insane struggle there and the book tells the inside stories as they are!

What do You think about The Wandering Falcon. Jamil Ahmad (2011)?

It was culturally illuminating, otherwise just ok. What I loved was the design and cover image.

Very well written book. Good follow-up to The Kite Runner. Short too. :)
