The Yonahlossee Riding Camp For Girls A Novel (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
I managed to get slightly more than halfway through before I gave it up, which is very uncharacteristic for me. Normally if I've invested myself into half of a novel, Im going to power through and finish. If you make it that far into the novel, perhaps you will be able to glean why I did chose to stop. It wasn't the darkness or intensity of the material; it was the ridiculousness in the way certain events were presented or transpired. Well-written in some ways but reaching too much in other ways. That's the best explanation I can give... I was disappointed in this book. It was on a recommended list for a women's reading group and I usually really like their selections, but I could never really get into this book. There didn't seem to be a plot, no beginning, middle, and end. I knew early in the story what had happened, so that wasn't a surprise. And the ending wasn't satisfying, Thea didn't change through the book. She didn't grow up, even though this was meant to be a book about a young girl growing up.
